RAMAPO, NY — With the Jaspers and Leopards tied in the eighth, Guriyandel Salva came to the plate with runners on second and third in the eighth. Salva delivered the two-run single that grabbed the lead for good, sending Manhattan to a 5-3 win over Lafayette on Wednesday at Clover Stadium.

Lafayette jumped out a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Matt Colella.

Hunter Sute led off the second inning with a single and took second on a stolen base. The Jaspers cashed in with an RBI single from Nico Mattera, tying the score at 1-1.

The Leopards struck again in the third on an RBI double from Michael Zarrillo which plated Easton Brenner from second. The visitors led 2-1 with three in the books.

Zarillo was a catalyst again in the sixth, hitting a solo home run off Arnav Ghuliani which extended the Lafayette lead to 3-1.

Manhattan added one back in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 3-2 when Jeremy Sosa scored on a wild pitch with Ryan Lordier at the plate.

After stranding the bases loaded in the seventh, Manhattan continued to fight in the eighth with Lafayette's Rob Dorn on in relief.

The Jaspers first two batters reached, forcing a mid-inning pitching change for the Leopards. Then, with Ben Waterman on in relief, Mattera scored on a ball-four wild pitch to Sosa that tied the game at three apiece.

Salva would then come through with the biggest hit of his young career, manufacturing two runs on his go-ahead single which proved to be the difference.

Manhattan (15-26, 7-13 MAAC) resumes Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game set versus the Saint Peter's Peacocks (11-28, 5-15 MAAC). The Jaspers and Peacocks will take the field at Clover Stadium on Friday at 3 p.m. for the series opener.
