BRONX, NY – The Manhattan College men's and women's indoor track & field teams returned to action for the first time in a month at the Fordham Vince Forte Invitational on Friday afternoon. Manhattan sent a small contingent of distance runners and field event athletes to the competition, which was held at the Vince Lombardi Center.
A pair of Jaspers qualified for the IC4A Indoor Championships with their winning performances. Amir Khaghani (Bethesda, MD) reached the IC4A standard in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:39.73. Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia), meanwhile, took first in the weight throw with an effort of 17.17 meters (56 feet, 3¾ inches).
Manhattan went 1-2 in the men's shot put, with Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY) finishing first (14.13 m, 46'4¼) and Nicholas Kocienda (Seaford, NY) placing second (12.43 m, 40'9½). Kocienda was also second in the weight throw (14.79 m, 48'6¼). In addition, John Dove (Monroe, NY) posted a time of 4:19.28 in the mile, which was good for third place.
On the women's side, Kathleen Cibuls (Blue Point, NY) led a 1-2 sweep in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 m (5'5). She also secured second place in the shot put with a mark of 9.53 m (31'3¼). Cheyenne Lewis (Queens, NY) was third in the shot put (9.25 m, 30'4¼) to go along with a victory in the weight throw (11.07 m, 36'4).
Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) cleared 1.60 m (5'3) to take second in the high jump, and Erin Spadaccini (Wilmington, DE) placed second in the 800 meters (2:22.48). Meanwhile, Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ) was third in the 1000 meters (3:01.12) and Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY) finished fourth in the mile (5:13.80).
This was the first of two meets this weekend for the Jaspers. Manhattan will head to the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center for the Towson Tiger Invitational at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
