PRINCETON, NJ – The ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships began on Friday at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.  Manhattan College's Stefan Hoeller (Bergsich Gladbach, Germany) was in sixth place after five events in the decathlon, while Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) sat in seventh after the first day of action in the heptathlon.  In addition, Tom Diliberto (Massapequa Park, NY) took part in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase.

Hoeller posted a day one score of 3207 points.  His best performance of Friday came in the shot put, where he got out to a distance of 11.61 meters (38 feet, 1¼ inches).  Pohl, meanwhile, tallied 2617 points over the first four events in the heptathlon.  She registered a time of 15.21 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles and ended the day by running the 200 meters in 26.41 seconds.

In the men's steeplechase, which was held in a steady rain, Diliberto notched a 9:15.21 clocking.  That time was good for 18th place.

Competition in the decathlon and heptathlon resumes at 9 a.m. on Saturday.  The ICA men's hammer throw is scheduled for 10 a.m., while action on the track begins at 10:30 a.m. with the ECAC women's events, followed by the IC4A events at 3 p.m.  Most of Saturday's races are preliminary heats to qualify for Sunday's finals.
