BOSTON – The Manhattan College men's track & field team had several stellar performances on the second day of the John Thomas Terrier Classic from Boston University's Track & Tennis Center on Saturday. Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, NY) was third in the weight throw and Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia) took third in the long jump, while the 4x400 meter relay squad qualified for the IC4A Championships.
Pocesta got out to a distance of 19.43 meters (63 feet, nine inches) in the weight throw. Gustave Menocal (Bronx, NY), meanwhile, had an IC4A-qualifying toss of 17.43 m (57'2¼), which was good for 10th place overall.
In the long jump, Clarke's best effort was 7.20 m (23'7½). Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, NJ) finished fifth with a leap of 7.08 m (23'2¾). He also placed fifth in the triple jump with an indoor personal best of 14.89 m (48'10¼).
Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, NY) ran the 200 meters in 22.25 seconds, just missing the IC4A standard by 0.01 seconds. Stallings later anchored the 4x400 relay team to a 13th-place finish. His split on the final leg was 47.9 seconds, as the Jaspers notched an overall time of 3:17.61. Joining Stallings in the relay were Akash Patel (Orlando, FL), Justin Alleyne (New Rochelle, NY) and Joe Martello (Amawalk, NY). Alleyne also contested the 500 meters and recorded a season-best 1:05.59 clocking to secure 12th place.
While most of the women's events took place on Friday, the distance medley relay was held on Saturday. Manhattan's quartet of Alexa Roda (Staten Island, NY), Jasmine Davis (Ronkonkoma, NY), Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ) and Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY) finished fourth in a time of 11:58.73.
Manhattan returns to action next weekend at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships. The competition gets underway on Thursday, with the remainder of the meet taking place on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
