LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Manhattan golf team set a school record with a team total of 297 (+9) in Round 2 of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course. The Jaspers had the second-lowest team round of the nine competing schools on Day 2. Manhattan currently sits tied for sixth place with Rider after two days of play.
The team's 297 broke a school mark that stood for 13 years. The team of Chris Damiano '03, Marty Tobias '04, Jay Wiederlight '04 and Tim Hand '05 previously set the school best when they carded a 299 at the MAAC Tournament in 2002.
Freshman Ryan Lynch (Boynton Beach, Fla. / Park Vista) posted a team best 69 (-3) in Round 2. After bogeying the opening hole, Lynch birdied five holes and recorded just one bogey the rest of the morning.
Juniors James Edgeworth (Staten Island, N.Y. / Tottenville) and Michael Giannico (Blue Point, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) shot identical scores of 74 (+2) to solidify the team's record-setting day.
Freshman Johnny Schob (Huntington, N.Y. / Salisbury School) registered an 80 (+8).
Saint Peter's 581 (+5), Iona 598 (+22) and Fairfield 601 (+25) represent the top three teams after two days. Manhattan sits nine strokes behind Fairfield entering the final round.
The Jaspers will tee off in the first five groups on Sunday's third and final day of competition, with the first threesome scheduled to open play at 7:30 a.m.
