Round 1 - Results
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Manhattan men's golf team turned in a Day 1 total of 313 (+25) at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course to open the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. The course is a par-72 and plays 7,008 yards.
The team score places Manhattan in seventh in the field of nine teams entering Saturday's second round.
Sophomore Jon Keyes (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) finished Round 1 as the Jaspers' lowest scorer, with a 75 (+3). His total puts him in a tie for 13th place, individually. "The greens were running really nicely today, and the conditions as a whole were pretty perfect," Keyes said.
Freshman Ryan Lynch (Boynton Beach, Fla. / Park Vista) and junior James Edgeworth (Staten Island, N.Y. / Tottenville) carded opening rounds of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5), respectively.
Edgeworth didn't open his morning particularly well, shooting a 43 (+7) on the front nine, but turned his day around in a hurry with a 34 (-2) on the back nine. He birdied three of the opening four holes after the turn.
Junior Michael Giannico (Blue Point, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) and freshman Johnny Schob (Huntington, N.Y. / Salisbury School) posted identical scores of 85 (+13).
Saint Peter's leapt out to a substantial lead after 18 holes, with a team tally of 288 (E). The Peacocks sit seven strokes ahead of second place Monmouth 295 (+7) and eight in front of Iona 296 (+8) after one round of play.
The Jaspers will tee off in the first five groups on Saturday, with the first threesome scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. start.
