RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In the Manhattan College indoor track & field team's final home meet of the season, the Manhattan College Invitational, Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) won the shot put competition and was the top collegiate competitor in the weight throw at Draddy Gymnasium on Wednesday.  Ewald had season-best marks in both events, putting the shot 16.84 meters (55 feet, three inches) and registering a distance of 17.94 m (58'10¼) in the weight throw.

Anastas Papazov (Balchik, Bulgaria) placed just behind his teammate in the weight throw, qualifying for the IC4A Championships with a mark of 17.75 m (58'3).  Finishing just behind Ewald in the shot put was Colin Quirke (Los Gatos, Calif.), whose best throw of the day was 16.82 m (55'2¼).

Other top performers for the men's team included Kevin O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.), who won the mile in a time of 4:32; Anthony Vega (Patchogue, N.Y.), second in the 60 meters (7.1); Jaylen Henderson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), second in the 60 meter hurdles (8.7); and Matt Perrelli (Smithtown, N.Y.), second in the high jump (1.84 m, 6'0½).

In the women's 60 meters, Ashley Bowman (Elmont, N.Y.) and Andrea Nyback (Koping, Sweden) were given identical times of 7.8 seconds, with Bowman being awarded the win.  Nyback also took first in the long jump (5.61 m, 18'5) and second in the high jump (1.60 m, 5'3).  Ivea Vitola (Jekabpils, Latvia) won the 200 meters (26.3) and Doreen Horschig (Lumpzig, Germany) finished first in the 60 meter hurdles (8.7), while Katie O'Connell (Staten Island, N.Y.) captured second place in the 800 meters (2:32) and Victoria Fitzgerald (Plymouth, Mass.) was second in the shot put (10.58 m, 34'8½).

This weekend, the Jaspers will compete in the Millrose Games Collegiate Invitational.  The weight throw will be held at Draddy Gymnasium on Friday, while the bulk of the meet takes place on Saturday at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center.
