PHILADELPHIA - On Day Two of the 117th Penn Relays at Franklin Field, Manhattan College's Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) competed in two events on Friday. Ewald took part in the Eastern section of the men's shot put, then was joined by Colin Quirke (Los Gatos, Calif.) in the men's college discus.
In the Eastern men's shot put, Ewald captured 16th place with a throw of 15.32 meters (50 feet, 3¼ inches). Barely two hours later, he was back out there for the men's college discus throw. His best mark of 46.49 m (152'6) was good enough for 20th place in the event. Quirke placed 14th with an effort of 48.12 m (157'10).
Ewald competes again on Saturday in the men's college hammer throw. Andrew Trass (River Dell, N.J.) is entered in the men's college javelin throw, which will also take place on Saturday.
Those Jaspers not participating in the Penn Relays on Saturday will travel to the College of New Jersey's Lions Invitational. The meet will serve as Manhattan's final tune-up before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships next weekend.
