Complete Results

PALISADES PARK, N.J. - Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) won three different events, qualifying for the IC4A Championships in each, to lead the Manhattan College men's track & field team to a first-place finish at the FDU Track Classic at the Palisades Park Sports Plex.  The Manhattan women's squad placed second in the team standings.

Ewald set a personal record with a mark of 56.77 meters (186 feet, three inches) in the hammer throw.  He then recorded a season-best 49.42 m (162'2) in the discus throw.  Ewald also took the shot put competition with a toss of 15.72 m (51'7).  Manhattan completed a clean sweep of the throwing events with Andrew Trass's (River Dell, N.J.) winning distance of 59.39 m (194'10) in the javelin.  Trass scored in all four throws, placing fifth in the discus (40.08 m, 131'6), sixth in the hammer throw (38.70 m, 127'0) and eighth in the shot put (13.59 m, 44'7).

Dan Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) (7.01 m, 23'0) and Ryan Degnan (Seaford, N.Y.) (6.40 m, 21'0) went 1-2 in the long jump, while Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) tied for first in the pole vault (4.65 m, 15'3).  Degnan also finished third in the high jump (1.85 m, 6'0¾), right behind teammate Mike Carroll (Nanuet, N.Y.), who finished second with a 1.95 m (6'4¾) clearance to go along with his third-place finish (16.05) in the 110 meter hurdles.

Other top performers on the track included Dimitri Mobley (Abington, Pa.), who took second in the 400 meter hurdles (56.13), Carlos Petrovich (Yonkers, N.Y.), third in the 400 meters (50.31), Nick Italiano (Staten Island, N.Y.), third in the 800 meters (1:57.96), and the 4 x 400 meter relay squad of Thomas Arias (Gaithersburg, Md.), Kevin D'Emic (Rockaway Point, N.Y.), John Gaffney (Rutherford, N.J.) and Italiano, which took third in a time of 3:24.44.

Manhattan finished with 172 points in the team competition, 62 more than second-place NJIT.

The top performer on the women's side was Sarah Moore (Irvington, N.Y.), who won the pole vault competition with a leap of 3.21 m (10'6¼) and set a personal best of 27.93 m (91'8) to take third place in the javelin.

Malin Olsson (Malmo, Sweden) continued her winning streak in the long jump, leaping 5.82 m (19'1¼), while Katelyn Savage (North Haledon, N.J.) established a new career-best with a third-place mark of 5.52 m (18'1½).  Megan Tice (Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Kristi Krull (Tallin, Estonia) took first and second in the high jump.  Tice cleared 1.70 m (5'7) to capture first place, while Krull jumped 1.55 m (5'1).

The highlight on the track for the women's team came in the 400 meter hurdles, where Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) won the gold medal in a time of 1:09.76.  Heidy Palacios (Yonkers, N.Y.) continued her impressive start to the outdoor season with second-place showings in both the 200 (25.50) and 400 meters (56.35).  Jackie Hargrove (Vienna, Va.) finished just behind Palacios in both events, taking third in the 400 (58.21) and fourth in the 200 (26.10).  In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Meghan Marro (Cherry Hill, N.J.) ran a time of 12:52.85, which was good enough for second place.

The Lady Jaspers placed second in the team competition with 135 points.  Host Fairleigh Dickinson collected 180 points on the women's side.

Next weekend, Manhattan heads to the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, which will be held at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J., on Friday and Saturday.
