New Balance Collegiate Invitational Results
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Cara Rostant (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had a pair of first-place finishes to lead the Manhattan College track & field team at the Giegengack Invitational at Yale University's Coxe Cage on Saturday. Rostant won the 200 meters in a personal-best and ECAC-qualifying time of 24.88 seconds. She also ran the anchor leg on Manhattan's victorious 4 x 400 meter relay squad.
The 200 meters was held on Friday night, and Rostant led a 1-3-6 for Manhattan. Ashley Bowman (Elmont, N.Y.) placed second in 25.25 seconds, while Heidy Palacios (Yonkers, N.Y.) captured sixth place with a time of 25.71 seconds. On Saturday, Jackie Hargrove (Vienna, Va.) took second in the 500 meters with a time of 1:16.51. The quartet then combined to win the relay in 3:45.60.
Also on Saturday, Siri Fagerlund (Helsingborg, Sweden) made her season debut with a fifth-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (9.12) and 10th place result in the 60 meters (8.06).
In the men's 60 meter hurdles, Justin Chiaravelle (Danbury, Conn.) placed seventh in a time of 8.52 seconds. Carlos Petrovich (Yonkers, N.Y.) finished the 500 meters in 50.50 seconds, good enough for 13th place.
In addition, Manhattan throwers Colin Quirke (Los Gatos, Calif.) and Rokas Kirlys (Kamaji, Lithuania) competed in the shot put at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory Track & Field Center on Friday. Quirke took 19th with a throw of 15.41 meters (50 feet, 6¾ inches), while Kirlys finished 21st (15.31 m, 50'2¾).
A majority of Manhattan's field event athletes will be back in action on Wednesday, when the Jaspers host Fordham and Southern Connecticut State at Draddy Gymnasium. Next weekend, the squad heads to Boston for the St. Valentine Invitational, the final tune-up meet before the MAAC Championships.
