Friday Recap
BOSTON - The men took center stage on day two of the St. Valentine Invitational from Boston University's Track & Tennis Center. Among the highlights for Manhattan College were Brian McGovern's (Yonkers, N.Y.) silver medal in the pole vault and a fifth-place showing by Felix Siljeback-Larsen (Vasteras, Sweden) in the high jump.
McGovern, who transferred to Manhattan from Northeastern University in Boston, cleared 4.88 meters (16 feet) to capture second place in the pole vault. He'll get the chance to vault in the venue again at the IC4A Championships on March 5-6. In the high jump, Siljeback-Larsen jumped 1.93 m (6'4) to finish in a tie for fifth. He also competed in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.75 seconds to place 20th. Nick Estis (Bardonia, N.Y.) took 24th in the open 60 meters (7.21), while Carlos Petrovich (Yonkers, N.Y.) was 35th in the 400 meters (49.44).
The meet was the final tune-up before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Indoor Championships, which will be held on Friday, Feb. 18 at the Armory Track & Field Center. The men's team is looking for its 15th straight MAAC indoor title, while the Manhattan women have won the indoor conference championship 13 times in the last 14 years.
