NEW YORK - Competing in his first meet of the year after battling through injuries for most of the 2009-10 season, Albert Johnson III (Painted Post, N.Y.) of the Manhattan College men's track & field team won the men's long jump at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday night at the Armory Track & Field Center on 168th Street.  Johnson qualified for the IC4A Championships with a leap of 7.19 meters (23 feet, 7¼ inches).

Also posting victories on Friday were Malin Olsson (Malmo, Sweden) in the women's long jump (5.89 m, 19'4) and Colin Quirke (Los Gatos, Calif.) in the men's shot put.  In his first meet for the Jaspers after transferring from the University of Oklahoma, Quirke qualified for the Metropolitan Championships with a throw of 14.97 m (49'1½).

Quirke led four Manhattan men's shot putters in the top six.  Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) placed third with a mark of 14.89 m (48'10¾), while Rokas Kirlys (Kamaji, Lithuania) was fourth (14.77 m, 48'5½) and Andrew Trass (River Dell, N.J.) finished sixth (14.23 m, 46'8¼).  Coming off an injury, Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) cleared 4.60 m (15'1) to take third in the men's pole vault.  Also in the men's pole vault, Yardley Keshinover (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) had a personal-best mark of 4.15 meters (13'7¼) to qualify for Mets.  Felix Siljeback-Larsen (Vasteras, Sweden) captured third place in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.91 m (22'8), and Dan Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) set a personal best of 14.00 m (45'11¼) to secure fifth place in the men's triple jump.

On the women's side, Olsson set an indoor personal best in the triple jump (11.83 m, 38'9¾) to place fourth.  Megan Tice (Hyde Park, N.Y.) tied for second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60 m (5'3), and Emmy Koskinen (Sodertalje, Sweden) took second place in the 800 meters (2:16.33).  Heidy Palacios (Yonkers, N.Y.) qualified for Mets with a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (57.53), while Ashley Sims (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) (12.18 m, 39'11½) and Erin Morrison (Dingman's Ferry, Pa.) (11.86 m, 38'11) both reached the qualifying standard in the women's weight throw.

Manhattan's next meet will be the Albany Great Dane Classic next Friday night at the Armory.
