GAME 2 BOXSCORE

Riverdale, NY (April 6, 2004)- In the home opener for the Lady Jaspers, LaSalle took both games of the softball double header at Gaelic Park, taking the first game, 4-1, and the second game, 1-0. Manhattan falls to 2-17 on the season.

In the first game, the Explorers (7-20), after three scoreless innings, plated three runs in the top of the fourth off Manhattan starter Elizabeth Pennino (0-3). LaSalle pushed across the first run on an RBI groundout by Jeanette Middlestead, and plated two more on a throwing error by the Manhattan catcher after a wild pitch.

The Explorers added another run in the top of the fourth on another throwing error by the Manhattan catcher.

Manhattan, in the bottom of the seventh, cut the deficit to three after an RBI fielder's choice by Kerry Cook, but could not pull any closer.

Ali Wood (4-8) went the distance for the win for LaSalle, allowing one unearned run while allowing just three hits and tallying five strikeouts. Pennino went five innings for Manhattan, allowing one earned run on two hits. Coleen Horgan went the final two innings, allowing two hits and no runs.

In the second game, the teams traded scoreless innings until the top of the seventh, when Rachel Kemock singled home Laura Dezolt. The Lady Jaspers threatened in the bottom of the seventh, as Marina Ysaac tripled to center with two away, but Manhattan could not break into the scoring column as Stefanie Gozdziewski popped up to second to end the game.

Dezolt (2-4) went the distance for LaSalle, scattering four hits while strikeing out six. Jillian Medea (1-9) went seven strong innings for the Lady Jaspers, allowing the lone run on four hits.

Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday, April 7, when the Lady Jaspers travel to Binghamton, NY to take on Colgate University in a double header scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
