Riverdale, NY (April 25, 2004)- Manhattan women's softball team split a double header against Canisius today at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. Canisius took the first game, 4-1 only allowing one hit. Manhattan went on to take the second game 3-1. The Lady Jaspers record is now 11-23 overall and 7-3 in the MAAC and Canisius is 15-22 and 7-4 in MAAC play.

In the first game, Manhattan took a one run lead in the bottom of the first inning. With Jennifer McCracken on first base Kiera Fox hit a single advancing McCracken to second. McCracken would then run home off of an error by the Short Stop giving Manhattan a, 1-0, lead.

Canisius tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the fourth after Jamie Gorczynski scored off a double by Beth Enk. The Griffs took a 2-1 lead after Caitlin Lever hit a RBI single scoring Mary Burke, Enk's pinch runner. With the Golden Griffs up by one in the fifth inning Becky Owen reached first base off an error by Manhattan's second baseman. Canisius would take a three run lead after the bottom of the fourth inning, 4-1.

Lady Jasper Jillian Medea pitched seven innings allowed four runs, struck out six in the first game and Andrea Bunten pitched a complete game one hitter striking out 15.

In the second game, Canisius started the scoring in the top of the third inning after Luukinen was walked and came home off a single by Osika. The score was 1-0, Golden Griffs, until the bottom of the sixth inning when Ysaac singled and ran home after Kerri Cook sacrificed to tie the game, 1-1. Manhattan took a one run lead in the bottom of the sixth after Fox came home on an error by the Griff's Short Stop. With the bases loaded and two outs, Christina Buyea came in to pinch hit for Cook, and was walked bringing home Gozdiewski the final run of the game. McCracken ended the inning with a fly out to centerfield.

The Lady Jaspers held the Griffs to zero runs in the top of the seventh taking a 3-1 win in the second game.

At the end of game two, Medea pitched a complete game allowing one run, six hits and four strike outs for her ninth win of the season, while Garbacz allowed three runs, four hits and four strike outs.

Manhattan hosts Lafayette Wednesday, April 28 in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm at Gaelic Park.
