Loudonville, NY (April 18, 2004)- Jillian Medea pitched back-to-back shutouts as Manhattan swept a MAAC double header from Siena today in Loudonville. The Lady Jaspers took the first game, 2-0, before posting an extra inning, 1-0 win in the second game. Manhattan improves to 6-20 overall and 4-2 in MAAC play.
In the first game, the Lady Jaspers plated single runs in the sixth and seventh. In the sixth, Jennifer McCracken singled to open the inning before being sacrificed to second by Kerry Cook. An Erika Kostik single moved McCracken to third before Stefanie Godzdiewski singled her home with an RBI single.
In the seventh, the Lady Jaspers added an insurance run as Michelle Gutierrez opened the inning with single before Elizabeth Strein was inserted as a pinch runner. After a wild pitch, a Megan Jurkowski single moved Strein to third before pinch hitter Candice Sheridan singled her home.
Medea went the distance, scattering three hits while posting six strikeouts.
In game two, after seven scoreless innings, a Gutierrez single opened the top of the eighth. Strein then pinch ran and, after an out, scored when Marina Ysaac's hit was misplayed by the Siena catcher.
Medea again went the distance, scattering four hits with eight strikeouts. Medea received the win in both games and improves her record to 5-11.
