GAME 2 BOXSCORE

Poughkeepsie, NY (April 17, 2004)- Jillian Medea went the distance as Manhattan defeated Marist, 2-1, in the second game of the MAAC double header today at Marist. The Red Foxes won the first game, 2-1. The Lady Jaspers are now 4-21 overall, 2-2 in MAAC play.

In the second game, the Lady Jaspers scored all the runs they would need in the top of the fourth. Kerry Cook led off the inning with a single to right, and was sacrificed to second by Erika Kostik. Kiera Fox then connected on an RBI double to left center, chasing home Cook. After a groundout advanced Fox to third, a Red Fox error off the bat of Stefanie Gozdziewski scored Fox to make the score 2-0 Manhattan.

A single and double leading off the bottom of the fourth brought Marist to within one, 2-1, but Medea shut the door from there, allowing just a single the rest of the way, picking up her third win of the season. She scattered four hits and struck out five.

In game one, Marist (7-28, 2-2 MAAC) plated two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI double.

The Lady Jaspers cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth, as Gozdziewski scored on a RBI bunt by Margaret LaFex. Manhattan threatened in the top of the sixth, putting runners on second and third with two outs, but could not push across the tying run.

Medea (3-11) went the distance in the loss for Manhattan, allowing two runs on four hits while tallying six strikeouts.

The Lady Jaspers get back in action tomorrow, Sunday, April 18, when they travel to Loudonville, NY to battle the Siena Saints in a MAAC double header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
